Andrew Marlin is a songwriter from Warrenton, N.C., and is a true lover of all things music. Armed with an acoustic guitar and the occasional band, Andrew manages to seamlessly transition between one genre to the next while still maintaining a sound that is purely his own. Folk, bluegrass, cool jazz and R&B all become one through his voice and his strings. For years Andrew has been perfecting his craft by playing with a diverse assortment of musicians, including Robert Sledge of Ben Folds Five and various members of The Steep Canyon Rangers, such as Charles Humphries III and Nicky Sanders. Throughout his career, Andrew has co-founded three separate bands which explored vastly different styles. His first group, Arktype, blended metal and hard acoustic rock with a success rarely achieved in such a fusion. His second band, The Salt Licks, was an acoustic rock trio with heavy inflections of funk, folk and rock. While a member, Andrew wrote scores of songs in various styles and truly began to find his "sound". His third project, which is currently on hiatus, is The Barefoot Movement. Heavily focused on blue grass and folk, TBM exemplifies Andrew's musical dexterity and song crafting prowess. As to what sounds this young man is creating, one could take notice of musical pioneers such as Eddie Veddar, John Lennon, and Jim Morrison who were his main influences as a young musician. His melodies and structures are classic and familiar, yet they have a new found edge formed from the themes and ideas of modern music. |
